Detailed syllabus and preparation guide for SSC CPO

Staff Selection Commission or SSC has released a notification for the recruitment of Sub Inspector and Assistant Sub Inspector and CAPF – Central Armed Police Forces viz ITBP, CRPF, BSF, SSB, CISF. All these posts fall under the SSC Central Police Organization (CPO). This article would cover the detailed syllabus of SSC CPO.
The SSC CPO exam will be conducted in two stages – Paper I and Paper 2. After qualifying in stage 1, the candidate needs to appear for a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The candidate will be allowed to appear in Paper 2 if he/she qualifies in PET/Medical Test.

  1. General Intelligence & Reasoning:

The questions will be of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on:
  • Analogy

Weightage: 6-8 questions.
Question Type: Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Letter & Number, Image & Meaning based.
  • Classification

Weightage: 6-7 questions.
Question Type: Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Classification.

Question Type: Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Mixed Series, Series based on General Knowledge.

English Comprehension

The SSC CPO exam aims to check how well you can understand correct English and your basic comprehension and writing ability, etc.

SSC CPO Syllabus – Paper II 2018


Paper 2 is the test of English only and it is a descriptive exam. This test is to assess your understanding and knowledge of English Language (Vocabulary, grammar and Spellings) and will be based on the below:
  • Error recognition
  • Filling in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc)
  • Sentence Structure
  • Synonyms & Antonyms
  • Sentence Completion
  • Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words
  • Comprehension, etc.
