CTET Preparation tips

CTET (Central Teacher’s Eligibility Test) is an exam conducted by CBSE to pick the best teachers for the primary and upper primary sections. Every year lakhs of students appear for the test. Since this test sets a benchmark to test the quality of the teachers; the paper is known to be quite tough and many find it difficult to clear in the first attempt. Many students take the test 2-3 times to finally succeed.
Nevertheless, nothing is impossible to achieve with a little hard work. Let’s have a look at some tips to help crack CTET in the first attempt.
CTET preparation tips Section-wise:
1. Child Development & Pedagogy
This subject is common in both the exams (Paper I and Paper II). 60% of questions are from this section. Candidate should be well prepared on these topics- child psychology and development stages of a child and special needs of a child.
2. Hindi Language
This subject is common in both the exams (Paper I and Paper II). In hindi section, there will be Reading Comprehension and one Poem passage along with questions on Hindi language and grammar. The best way to prepare for Hindi section is to read NCERT books from Class 1st to 10th.
3. English Language
This subject is common in both the exams (Paper I and Paper II). In this section, questions will be on Reading Comprehension and Poem passage along with questions on English language and grammar. The best way to prepare for English section is to read NCERT textbooks from Class 1st to 10th.
4. Mathematics
Mathematics is common in both Paper I and Paper II. Questions will be from Pedagogy, Analytical, Calculative and Application. The candidates must be clear with all the concepts that are covered in NCERT Math books till class VII.
Being prepared for any exam is the first step to clearing it. CTET exam date will be published soon. Proper and calculated preparations should be done to achieve one’s goal.
  1. Set a goal: Always remind yourself what you want to achieve and what needs to be done to reach that goal. Make deadlines for each topic or a day and try your level best to make up to it. At the end of day look back at the work done. This will motivate you to work harder and better.
  2. Prepare: Preparation starts with getting the appropriate books and it should be started well in advance. There should be time to cover all the topics including revision and practicing old papers. To prepare get your hands on NCERT textbooks from class I-X. Reading should be a routine. Keep yourself up to date with the e-books and videos for added information.
  3. Time Management: The aspirants should check the website for the syllabus and previous year’s question papers. Familiarizing with the topics and exam pattern will help in time management. Revise all the topics and you will be able to decide your strong and weak points.
  4. Have a strategy: Decide which questions you need to answer first. Once you know your weak points try to work harder on those topics. During the exam attempt the ones you know better and come back later for the difficult ones.
  5. Practice: There are plenty of CTET mock test available online. Try to attempt as many as possible. The more you solve, the more confident you will be of your preparations. The mock tests also help you analyze your strengths and weaknesses. Solving the Mock test papers will improve your speed and accuracy. It helps in time management as well. Work on a number of previous year’s question papers to be acquainted with the exam pattern and type of questions.
  6. Be stress -free: It’s easier said than done. Stress is a part of exams but we shouldn’t be over powered by it. Get proper sleep and eat healthily. Takes breaks in between studies to refill your energy. If preparations are done well in advance there is no need to stress in the days nearing the exam. Relax the mind and be calm and focused, it will help to answer the papers as you prepared.

Hard work and success go hand in hand. If you have taken the pains to prepare well you will surely see success. Follow the above tips and believe in yourself. Having a positive mind takes you half way towards your goal. The remaining half lies in the hard work you put up.
