IBPS PO EXAM PATTERN & SYLLABUS


IBPS has been giving opportunities to the young aspirants in creating a Banking career. IBPS started Common Written Examination (CWE) in 2011 to recruit the officers and clerks for the Public Sector Banks. Aspirants can apply based on their educational qualifications. The minimum educational qualification to attempt the clerical exam is graduation in any discipline.  



In this session, we will look at IBPS PO Exam in detail.

In 2018, the expected number of posts available is 4000. The Pre-Exam of IBPS PO Exam date will be on 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th October and the Main Examination to be held on 26th November 2018.

Let us take a look the eligibility criteria for IBPS PO exam:
      
Educational Qualification:

For an aspirant to attempt the IBPS PO exam, the minimum educational qualification is a Graduation degree in any stream (B.A, B.Com, B.Sc. or B.Tech) from a reputed University approved by the Indian government. The Graduation marks should be mentioned during registration to attempt the IBPS PO exam.

It is mandatory that the aspirant should have adequate knowledge of computer operation to attempt the IBPS PO exam in the online mode.

An aspirant should also have verbal as well as written aptitude in the official language the specific State or Union Territory. The aspirant should also be able to read, write and speak the language.

Age Eligibility:

The aspirant should be at least 20 years of age but should not be above 30 years. There is some relaxation for aspirants belonging to backward categories. Here is the tabular representation:

Nationality or Citizenship of the Candidate:

Following criteria should be fulfilled by the candidate to attempt the IBPS PO exam:

1.Must be a citizen of India
2.Should be a migrant of Nepal or Bhutan
3. A refugee from Tibet who came to India before January 1962 and intended to settl e permanently in India
4. Should be a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or any country of East Africa like Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi intended to settle permanently in India.

Aspirant belonging to categories 2,3 or 4 must have an eligibility certificate issued by the Indian government in their favour.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern:

IBPS PO Exam has two phases namely, the Prelims and the Mains.

IBPS PO- Prelims:

The Prelims exam has to be completed in one hour, conducted online. There will be 3 sections with a     total of 100 questions and a total score of 100 marks. It should be noted that IBPS PO exam has a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Aspirants must score the cut-off marks for qualifying into the Mains exam.  IBPS PO- Mains:

The IBPS PO Exam Pattern Mains exam has been modified for 2018. There is the descriptive paper included in the Mains. The Main exam of IBPS PO is also conducted online, with 4 sections holding a total score of 200 marks to be answered in 180 minutes. The descriptive paper has 1 section carrying a total score of 25 marks to be answered in 30 minutes.

There are a total of 5 sections in IBPS exam, with each section having different time limits. However, the total duration is 180minutes for the multiple choice questions and 30 minutes for the descriptive type question. IBPS PO Main exam also has a penalty of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Following is the tabular representation of the Mains exam:

 IBPS PO- Interview:

Aspirants who qualify the Mains exam will be eligible to attend the Interview, carrying 100 marks. To clear the interview round, the aspirant should score at least 40% (35% in case of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates).

This duration of Interview will be about 15-20 minutes. There will be a group of Bank officials, raising questions concerning themselves, banking sector, current affairs, general knowledge etc.

The aspirant must dress well, have confidence and most importantly, carry the required documents for the interview. Based on the score secured in the Mains and the interview, IBPS sets the merit list. There is a ratio of 80:20 maintained by the IBPS to work out the final score along with the weightage of marks for the Mains and the interview.

 IBPS PO Syllabus:

The syllabus of IBPS exam is the same as other Bank exams. However, IBPS provides more of broad subjects, which are further classified into separate topics based on the questions from the previous years. The IBPS PO syllabus is divided into two parts: Prelims and the Mains.
