Time management Tips for IBPS PO Exam

IBPS PO recruitment was released in the month of August this year. Lakhs of students every year apply for the IBPS exams every year. And with passing years, the competition in the field is increasing. So, to place yourself within strong grounds, you have to prepare yourself the best possible way. One of the prime factors that decide the success of an applicant is Time management skills of the candidate.
How to manage time in Competitive exams?
Time management skills should be the supreme strength of a person attempting competitive exams. All those who have applied for the upcoming IBPS PO Exam date, must start working on this. The tips mentioned below shall helpful in managing time both before and during exam.

  1. What is the Exam Pattern?
To start working on time management, first of all you must know the exam pattern. In this regard, it is important to mention that IBPS has introduced ‘Sectional Timing’ in both prelims and mains exam. For each section in Prelims, you shall be allotted 20 minutes and a total of 60 minutes. Wherefore, for Mains exam, there shall be 60 mins allotted for reasoning, 40 mins for English language, 45 mins for Data Analysis and 35 mins for Data awareness.

  1. How many days remaining?
After getting idea of the exam pattern, you are to learn how much time is remaining in your hand for preparation. As per 2018 IBPS PO notification, the prelims exam is scheduled to be on 13, 14, 20, 21st of October. So, you have only a month’s time remaining in your hand. Plan out a proper study plan allotting separate time for every section.

  1. Sectional time to be allocated
We have already learnt that IBPS has introduced separate timings for sections. So, this time you will have to be very quick and smart in choosing proper questions to answer. Also you will have to choose sections which need very less time to get solved by with accuracy. You can follow the below given time strategy:

For English:
Fill in the Blanks – 2 - 3 mins
Replace Phrase – 2 – 3 mins
Spot the Error – 4 mins
Cloze Test – 3 – 4 mins
For Numerical:
Number Series – 3 - 4 mins
Simplification – 4 – 5mins
Data Interpretation – 5 mins
Others – remaining time
For Reasoning:
Blood Relations and Direction – 3-4 mins
Inequality and syllogism – 5-6 mins
Arrangements – 5 mins
Coding & Decoding – 5 mins

  1. Critical eye to choose question
The above mentioned lists are not only to follow the timing. But also an order of preference in which the questions should be attempted. For any competitive exam, try to answer the questions which take less time and you can solve with accuracy, at the beginning. Furthermore, you should not get stuck with a single question. Avoid wasting time in solving a single one. Try to move fast and act smart.

  1. Practice with time bounds at home
It is very essential to have speed in the exam and be correct at the same time. For this, you need a lot of practice. Solve question papers and IBPS PO mock test series within time limits to learn managing time.
